The Student Affiliates of
the American Chemical Society (SAACS) is a Winthrop University professional
club that promotes exchange between Winthrop University students studying
chemistry and the chemical science opportunities at Winthrop University,
primarily the Department of Chemistry. The SAACS club is aligned with the
national American Chemical Society, the largest scientific professional
society in the world.
The club seeks to advance
the chemical industry career of each student member by exploring career
opportunities available through national, regional, and local meetings as
well as providing information and guidance on career choices, resumes,
interviews, etc.
Another goal of this chapter
is to provide outreach to the Rock Hill community through volunteer
chemistry-related projects at local schools and museums. Each year the club
participates in National Chemistry Week by performing chemical
demonstrations at the Museum of York County.
Any student studying
chemistry, chemical engineering, or other chemical science at Winthrop
University is eligible to join. Membership dues are $5 each semester. It is
also encouraged, but optional, that students join the National Student
Affiliates. Information about and benefits of becoming a National Student
Affiliate are available from club officers and our advisor.
