Description: A required NSF Chem-STEM course covering topics including
team-building, study group formation, academic support services and curriculum
planning.
Course
Objectives:
This course is intended to provide support to the NSF Chem-STEM scholars in the
beginning stages of their academic careers. The course will introduce students
to Department and University activities that are available to them to
facilitate a successful academic career. The course will foster a connection
between scholars, creating a close-knit community.
Grading for the
Course: The course is
graded S/U. For satisfactory completion of the course, you are required to attend all seminar meeting times. If you miss
more than one required class meeting, you will receive an unsatisfactory and
risk losing part or all of your scholarship. I will keep track of
attendance in Blackboard.
Academic
Monitoring: Contact the Eagle STEM office in Sims 113A to set up an academic
monitoring schedule for the semester
Department Seminars: Department seminars are
held in Sims 105 at 11:00 am. Be sure to sign the CHEM 281 attendance sheet.
Student Conduct Code: You should carefully read
the Winthrop University Student Conduct Code printed in the Winthrop University
Student Handbook. As noted in the Student Conduct Code: Responsibility for good conduct rests with students as
adult individuals. This policy on student academic misconduct is outlined
in the Student Conduct Code Academic Misconduct Policy in the online Student
Handbook http://www2.winthrop.edu/studentaffairs/handbook/StudentHandbook.pdf
Students with Disabilities: Winthrop
University is dedicated to providing access to education. If you have a
disability and require specific accommodations to complete this course, contact
the Office of Disability Services (ODS) at 323-3290. Once you have your
official notice of accommodations from the Office of Disability Services,
