This problem set requires the generation of Shewhart mean and range control charts for ten months of recent sample line challenge quality control data from a major Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant that are provided in the spreadsheet.
Summarize these data by generating a pivot table of the data with different dates on rows and columns of counts (number of QC samples on that date), average recovery, maximum recovery and minimum recovery
Copy the data from your pivot table into a separate clearly labeled "Recovery Bias Correction" worksheet
Calculate the mean recovery from the first 30 days of data and use this mean to remove bias by applying a recovery correction factor to the entire data set.
Calculate the range of bias-corrected recovery for each date in a separate column.
Copy your Reovery Bias Correction data into two separate worksheets that you label as Mean and Range Shewhart control charts respectively.
For the mean control chart
Use the first 30 days of data to establish the target reading (mean recovery) and to determine warning and control limits for the ten month period.
Generate a mean Shewhart control chart showing all six series (daily mean, target mean, upper control limit, upper warning limit, lower warning limit, lower control limit)
For the range control chart
Use the first 30 days of data to establish the target reading (mean range) and to determine (upper only) warning and control limits for the ten month period.
Generate a range Shewhart control chart showing all four series (daily range, target range, upper control limit, and upper warning limit)
