ACS Exam Review:  The final exam will cover both semesters of General Chemistry and be worth 30% of your course grade.  I will also replace your lowest test grade with your grade on the final.  Thus the final is really worth 40% of your overall grade.  This is an extremely challenging test for which you must be well prepared.  Students who have extensively prepared have historically done well; those who have not have historically done very poorly.  Between now and the final exam, you should be devoting at least 2 hours daily to working problems and studying for your General Chemistry final.

On reserve in the library, I have nine copies of the book "Preparing for your ACS Examination in General Chemistry."  This is a problem solving book that outlines key principles in each subject, followed by examples and problem sets.  Answer keys are provided for all problems are in the book.

I have grouped the chapters into four broad groups:

Atomic Structure; Molecular Structure and Bonding
Stoichiometry; States of Matter / Solutions
                  Energetics; Dynamics; Equilibrium
Electrochemistry / Redox; Descriptive Chemistry / Periodicity; Laboratory Chemistry

If you want to do well on the final, I strongly recommend that you work all problems in this text between now and the final exam.  I will offer numerous question and answer sessions to cover any questions you may have on these groups.

From Friday, April 13th through Wednesday, April 25th, I will be available Fridays at 2:00 PM, and class days from 7:00-7:50 and 8:00-8:50 in Withers 147.
