The amount of pure copper is the same amount of copper
that is in each of the two copper oxides--the red and black ones.

Since you know the total mass of each oxide, you can
calculate the grams of oxygen in each.....

from the grams of copper and oxygen in each oxide,
you can determine the empirical formula.
