Student Competencies: These will be updated as the semester progresses.
Chapter 3. Units and Dimensional Analysis:
1. Know the SI prefixes ranging from 10-12 to 1012; be able to accurately and rapidly convert from units with one prefix to another.
2. Demonstrate proficiency in rapidly converting from one metric unit to another.
3. Know the formulas and be able to rapidly calculate surface areas for a given triangle, square, rectangle, circle, or cylinder.
4. Know the formulas and be able to rapidly calculate volumes for a given cube, block, sphere, or cylinder.
5. Know and be able to effectively use the conversion factors for centimeters/inch, grams/pound, and liters/quart respectively.
6. Demonstrate an understanding of how to use the density equation to rapidly determine volume, mass or density.
7. Demonstrate an understanding of how to quickly convert among the various temperature scales.
8. Demonstrate effective use of the factor-label method to solve a given problem.
9. Demonstrate proficiency in using equations to solve for and to calculate any one of the quantities from all the given others.
