Course Description

SCIE 102X - Eagle STEM Seminar / Learning Through Community is a 0 credit hour seminar course designed to help prepare biology and chemistry scholars for the transition from high school to college.

Course Objectives

• Learn tools for successful transition from high school to college.Interface with faculty and upperclassmen to learn requirements for students to excel academically.

• Begin transition from student to scientist through technical and professional development seminars.

• Develop sense of community and collaborative relationships.

• Begin to integrate into the Global Learning Initiative at Winthrop University.

Student Competencies

• Demonstrate ability to problem solve through critical thinking.

• Demonstrate collaborative and leadership skills.

• Develop a gobal mindset for community service.

• Improve ability to communicate with diverse groups.

• Knowledge of positive risk taking.

Grading: This is a 0 credit hour course. However, attendance at all seminars is expected as the seminar series has been designed to flow from one seminar to the next building a foundation for academic success. Students are urged to keep a journal noting key seminar lessons learned.
