Changing
A Password
After you logged into your account for the first time, you should have set a
password. You can change your password by doing the following:
- Go to the Toolchest
menu.
- Click on the Desktop
option.
- Click on the Open
Unix Shell option.
A window should appear with the title winterm. Place the red
mouse pointer over this window. You'll notice that when the mouse pointer is
over a window, that window's border becomes highlighted.
- Type "passwd" at
the % prompt and press the "Enter" key.
- The computer will prompt
you for your "old password". Type your old password and press
the "Enter" key.
- The computer will prompt
you for a "new password". Type in a password that is not a
common word and that preferably contains each of the following: (avoid
special characters and punctuation – acceptable passwords are 6-8
characters in length)
- uppercase letters
- lowercase letters
- numbers
- After you've entered your
new password, press the "Enter" key.
- The computer will prompt
you for "verfication of your new password. Just retype your new
password exactly as you entered it before.
- After you've entered your
new password again, press the "Enter" key.
Make sure that you do not share your password with anyone else. Moreover,
it's better to memorize your password instead of writing on a scrap piece of
paper that can be lost or taken.
